With the amount of patio furniture that is available today, you would have a hard time not finding what you are looking for.  Most anyone can find some type of style that matches their tastes and needs in furniture design and function.  With all the emphasis on outdoor living spaces and making outdoor rooms like extended versions of your indoor spaces, outdoor furniture is getting even more stylish and flexible.

Chair Cushions For That Teak Furniture

There is some debate as to what types of chair cushions to get in order to make your teak chairs more comfortable.  Because of teak’s ability to resist the elements and its nice weathering effects, it is a common – and more expensive – material for patio furniture.  It also looks great, so choosing the right cushions is even more critical.  I mean, you want them to be comfortable, but you also don’t want to take away from the look of your furniture with a poor looking cushion.

One way to make sure that you are safe is to go for a neutral look.  You can use a colorful cushion, in a shade of orange, blue or green or whatever works for your scheme, but keep it simple.  The idea is to use a solid color.  Sometimes, bold patterns or stripes will take away from the inherent beauty of your teak furniture.  The cushions will do a small part in protecting your furniture from excessive aging, but this may also leave parts looking used and parts looking new.  It is just one of those trade-offs and something to be aware of.

Cushions for teak benches are really no different than the chairs.  In fact, getting a teak bench cushion is just like getting any other garden bench cushion.  There is nothing different about the fact that the bench is made from teak or cedar or some other type of wood or stone material.  The idea here is simply that teak is such a nice looking wood, that you don’t want to cover it up, especially with a bold looking cushion that will steal your bench’s thunder.

There many new changes that make patio furniture more comfortable than ever.  What happened? -  the materials have changed that allow for better wear time, fabrics that resist UV and patterns that represent a more modern appearance.  Today, you can  find patterns and styles from almost any era.  What you will see as you search online is that many of those retro patterns from the 1950s are coming back.

How Long Have Patio Furniture Cushions Been Available?

Well, I couldn’t tell you the date that they were introduced, but it would be fair to say that as long as patio furniture has been around, so have the cushions that go on them.  For obvious reasons, we have created the furniture to be able to get outside and enjoy the weather and peace that goes along with that fresh air environment.  You could argue that the first patio cushion was an animal fur that was put on a flat stone.  Luckily, times have changed.  At least, they have changed if you get good patio chair cushions.

How do you know that you have found good ones?  For one thing, at first, many may seem to be comfortable and plush.  Then, over a very short period of time during those great patio season days, those once plush cushions become flattened and useless.  They actually become more like simple, flat pads at that point.  This was common at one point with older versions of what were called “patio cushions”, but were really only some type of cheap plastic cover over a thin piece of foam padding.  These lasted only temporarily, maybe a couple seasons and then you needed to buy new ones.  So, unless you are looking for replacement patio cushions for patio furniture every season or two, the recommendation is to avoid these chair cushions.

Getting The Right Chair Cushions

As mentioned, there are some new styles that have allowed seating to be more comfortable than ever.  So, the style refers to more or less the shape and size of the cushions themselves.  With this, we are referring to the fact that there are both bottom and back pieces to the set.  This is what creates that comfortable seat that people just want to sink into for a while.  Unless you want your guests to get the hint and not wear out their welcome, get comfortable ones like these.  Will you pay more for them, yes.  But, after all, if you don’t spend some money now on better quality ones, you will end up spending more in the long run as you keep replacing your patio cushions every season.

What you will find with these new chaise lounge feeling chair cushions are the very way that they lead to you spending more time outdoors.  Not only that, you will end up spending more time enjoying your patio and less time spent getting massages to work out the kinks caused by your hard patio furniture.  You’ve probably had the experience yourself where you have sat on a wicker patio chair and got poked with one of those sticks – ouch! They may break down in the weather quite easily and may last only one or two seasons at best.

Would you want to sit on this for hours on end?

Who in their right mind would want to sit on that stuff without one?!  The only problem is, how do you find the right size and shape?  Or, once you find that, what about the pattern?  Sometimes it can be chic to have a 1950s print, but not everyone is that interested in that style alone.  Other people prefer a more modern look or feel to complement their nice wooden furniture.  There has been a spike in sales of teak furniture cushions for this reason alone.
