The topic of patio furniture cushions brings up a wide range of debate over what type of cushion is what and when should a patio cushion be considered a chair pad, what types of materials are the best, and the debates go on and on. Well, they go on and on if you are a designer or some other type of outdoor patio guru. If you are just a homeowner looking for a great new set of patio cushions, then you don’t need to worry. This article will address what you need to know to get your head straight about what to look for in your next chair cushion purchase.
If you are looking to spend a reasonable amount, in this case reasonable would be $50 – $60 USD per cushion, then you will be able to find a great selection to meet your needs. This is a moderate range. You can spend upwards of $150 USD or more – each – on a really custom set of cushions. If, on the other hand, you just want to find the cheapest chair cushion around, then don’t waste your time here. Honestly, check the local discount retail stores, they will have something slightly better than the metal or wood you would be sitting on without a cushion, but don’t expect them to last.
Patio chair cushions are actually one of those items that you often get what you pay for. If you spend a bit more, you get a cushion that returns a lot more in terms of comfort and durability. A cheap pad or nice ‘looking’ cushion will last a season or so, but then you’ll have to be back at that same big box store next year shopping again. Hey, this might be your style. You might prefer to have a new look each season. Sometimes the styles do change. But, if you would rather bank on quality and get a longer life from your patio furniture and your cushions, then spend a little more to get a quality set. We’re probably talking about another 40% more for a good quality set.
So, what do you get for your extra spending? Well, to begin with, you get a more superior quality fabric. Fabric choices now for outdoor furniture, draperies and awnings is world’s apart from what it was in the past. You can get UV resistant fabrics and breathable and waterproof fabrics that allow you to stay cooler as you sit out on the patio. Gone are the days of the hot and sticky chair pads. It is hard to even call those old things patio chair cushions. They were more like patio set foam pads. Now, they do serve a purpose. They can be used and abused. You don’t need to care for them and you can just throw them out when you tire of them. However, most people are more spend-thrifty than that. Wastefulness is never in fashion.
You will also benefit from a better fitting chair cushion for your additional money spent. The fit is everything. Think about it like a well-tailored suit. You can get a great suit off the rack, but it might be a bit loose here or tight there. Get a tailored suit and boy, you are looking sharp. When your cushions fit just right in your chairs, you will have a more cohesive look to your furniture and better functioning chair cushions as well.
